Beschrijving

The novella is written in the form of a fictional memoir or confessional monologue, narrated by an unnamed protagonist, often referred to as the Underground Man. The Underground Man is a highly intelligent, bitter, and alienated individual who has withdrawn from society and lives in self-imposed isolation.Through the rambling and introspective narrative of the Underground Man, Dostoevsky explores themes of existentialism, alienation, and the nature of human consciousness. The protagonist delves into his own psychology, analyzing his thoughts, desires, and contradictions. He grapples with his sense of inferiority, his resentment towards others, and his inability to engage in authentic human connections.\
